Four Men in the Top Ten, but A Gent comes out on Top!!

I know what you’re thinking… ‘bugger me, that headlines a bit convoluted innit!?’

Oh, you were thinking something else were you? You were thinking ‘oh, look who’s come crawling back, just SEVEN months after his last blog post. To which I say… ‘screw you buddy, screw you’.

Adam celebrates his victory with his famous chums.

Adam celebrates his victory with his famous chums.

That unpleasantness aside, a massive congratulations to this year’s Champion, the numero uno, the ultimate winner… ADAM GENT! Adam, manager of the rather filthily named Exeter Gently, was involved in a heated battle with Thomas Ashman and, earlier, Steve Morgan but then showed his class by winning the last two Manager of the Month awards to ease home. A debut win for Adam, and on this seasons form he will be the man to beat next season (I am starting the mind games early…)

In second place Thomas Ashman – known as Thomas Ashman to his friends – pipped early season front-runner Steve Morgan by 10 points. Both Tom and Steve are veterans of the Champion League places but in fourth, pushing some established names into Europa League Shame, was relative newcomer Andrew Donkin. Despite missing out on the bonze position on the final week of the season, Donkin has to see this season as a success given his relative inexperience and the fact that his Asylum for the Criminally Sarcastic only has internet access for 30 minutes each week.

Matt Ashman snatched fifth after a fine second half of the season, giving the Ashman brothers two places in the top five. The Ashmen pipped the Chapmen to secure familial bragging rights. Gary and John both secured places in the top ten (8th and 9th) but were badly let down by the third, younger, more attractive Chapman who battled like a brave soldier to achieve 22nd spot.

Filling up the remaining top ten places, like lint in a sock, were Mac MacNicoll, Stephen ‘Moisty’ Mortimer and Eric Lambert. Well done to them and indeed to everyone who kept playing the game till the end, or at least near the end.

The seasons wooden spoon goes to John Hill, who was sadly sent down for a ten stretch for armed robbery just 30 minutes into the first game of the season.

Just to show some attempt at effort I have compiled a table of top three positions in the monthly tables. I’ve also updated the Southampton table that I featured in the last post in November.

As for this blog, will it return next season? Hard to tell, I will give it a go but I’ll definitely either be writing far shorter posts or getting others to help out. Yes, in true politician style I am essentially blaming you lot for my own loss of interest.

Till next season!! Maybe!!
